Chief Guest at the IMC Ladies’ Wing – Annual General Meeting and Woman of the
Year Award 2010-2011 Ceremony. The Indian Merchants’ Chamber which was set up in
1907 has an active and vibrant Ladies’ Wing which was established in 1966.
Initiated as a forum for creating social awareness, it has progressed to become
a dynamic Organization.
The Ladies’ Wing is committed to the cause of women empowerment focusing on
educational, entrepreneurial and socio-economical developmental initiatives. It
comprises of around 1900 women members who are entrepreneurs, professionals,
corporate heads, academicians, bankers, social activists, home makers, etc.
Poised to address concerns and challenges to the present times, through ideas,
debates and dialogues to promote entrepreneurship the Wing also conducts
lectures, awards presentations, exhibitions, seminars, training sessions,
workshops, educational tours, industrial visits, business delegations.
At the AGM function, the Wing will be presenting an award viz.. IMC Ladies’ Wing
Woman of the Year Award: This Award is annually presented to honour a woman from
a selected profession for her substantial work and contribution which has led to
empowerment and development of the society. This year the Award will be
presented to recognize work of a woman who has spearheaded the field of
Education, with a deep social conscience and drive to help the underprivileged
in providing educational resources to the under privileged / less privileged /
abandoned / street children, residing in slums, urban or / and rural places in
India.
We are delighted to inform you that our respected Panel of Judges comprising of
Dr. Mrs. Kavita Rege, Principal, PTVA's Sathaye College, Prof. Vidya Rao, Tata
Institute of Social Sciences and CA. Sunil G. Karve, Founder Trustee and Vice
Chairman, Mumbai Educational Trust has unanimously decided that the IMC Ladies’
Wing Woman of the Year Award for 2010-2011 in the field of Education with a
Social Conscience be conferred upon:Smt. Sindhutai Sapkal,President,
Saptasindhu Manila Adhar , Shikshan and Sangopan Sanstha, Pune, Maharashtra.
Smt. Sapkal is known to all. Her inspiring, true-life story - who has overcome
all odds and gender bias to set up ashrams that shelters and educates around
1000 kids has touched millions of heart. Smt. Sapkal’s silent revolution and
contribution towards taking care of the orphans and nurturing them to be
laudable citizens of our nation, is indeed commendable. Smt Sapkal alongwith her
socially committed team of social workers is deeply committed towards this
cause. She has equally concentrated on creating and training succeeding line of
team to carry forward the responsibility and further the objectives of the
Organisation.
The marathi film Mee Sindhutai Sapkal which is a bio-pic inspired by the true
life story of Smt. Sapkal has received wide acclamation. The film was selected
for world premiere at the 54th London Film Festival. Smt. Sapkal has received
numerous awards, recognitions and is regularly invited at various international
and national seminars and forum.
